Disadvantages of Studying Abroad

Studying abroad is an increasing trend these days, and is not limited to the elite anymore. Students from all classes are availing programs which finance their education and they pursue their specialization at international universities.

Studying abroad has a special charm, and the advantages are numerous. But before you make a final decision you also need to know the disadvantages of studying abroad. If you can face them, it would be great but if you cannot, then reconsider your decision because it would be too difficult for you to cope with these problems alongside your studies.

  1. The major drawback of relocating to a foreign country is the increased costs. The rates are higher and currency conversion further increases the prices. There are many programs which fund your education, but you will have to meet the living expenses by yourself.  You must have extra money for food, accommodation, bills and other commodities. Moreover, there are some universities which do not allow their students to work, and if that is the case, you will not have any sources of income.
  2. The fact that you are absolutely alone is also among the major disadvantages of studying abroad. Many students fall homesick during the first few weeks. You can always talk to your family members on the phone but that is not the same as being with them. Spend more time with your class fellows, go out in the evenings, and participate in extracurricular activities. Once you make good friends, you do overcome this problem.
  3. There are differences in the lifestyle of every nation. You will not find your local food or hear your native language outside your country. Even the past – times vary in each region. You will also have to adapt to these cultural differences.

Living in an unknown land is difficult, but if you feel you can get used to it in the do course of time, do go because the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of studying aboard.
